Elevenmile Canyon Springer Fire Update
Elevenmile Canyon is still closed due to the Springer fire. The fire is currently estimated at 1145 acres based on infra-red imagery. The fire is burning in Ponderosa pine and grass, in areas of steep terrain.
There are currently 399 personnel on this fire consisting of 2 hotshot crews, 8 hand crews, 35 engines, and 5 helicopters. Two heavy air tankers will be available as needed; 3 Single Engine Air Tankers (SEATS) are now directly assigned to the fire. The management strategy for the fire is full suppression and perimeter control, containment is estimated at 23% at this time. Firefighters continue to make progress putting in fire line and securing the existing lines around the fire.
A cold front is forecasted for today which will bring lower temperatures, and slightly higher humidities. However, the cold front may bring erratic winds which could increase fire activity. Winds are predicted to gust to 25 mph. We will approach red flag conditions over the fire area.
The fire has been determined to be human caused and may be related to recreational shooting. US forest Service, Park County Sheriff, FBI and ATF are working collaboratively to investigate the cause of the fire.
Our guides are reporting very little smoke is currently coming from the fire. From the fire parimeter maps it seems that the fire has not grown much since yesterday.
