301 Streamer Class with Steve Gossage

Steve Gossage is sometimes called “The Streamer Guy” around here.  His first passion may be dry fly fishing because of the technical aspects, but he loves stripping streamers and, you know, the tug is the drug.  Nothing like a big rainbow smashing the streamer.  Steve will be teaching the two-part streamer class coming up at the end of September.

Fall streamer fishing in Colorado can be some of the best fishing of the year and provides the opportunity to catch that true fish of a lifetime.

The 301 Streamer class is comprised of both classroom and streamside instruction and will focus on tactics, techniques, equipment, and flies for fishing streamers for trout in moving water. Classroom topics will include: streamer tactics (why trout bite streamers), large trout behavior, equipment (rods, reels, floating/sinking lines, leaders, and tippet), flies (articulated and classic patterns), and streamer rigs (single and double fly rigs).

There will be a two-day break between classroom instruction and the streamside session to allow for gear preparation, rigging, fly tying, etc.

Streamside topics will include streamer retrieves (vertical jig, jerk/strip, swing, straight line, downstream), covering and reading water, strip setting, and fighting/landing trout.

After the streamside instruction everyone is encouraged to stay and apply what was learned and enjoy a day of streamer fishing. Instructor(s) will be available until 12:00 PM for questions, assistance, picture taking, etc.

Classroom session: Thursday, September 28. 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Streamside session:  Saturday, September 30.  8:00 a.m. – Noon
