Fly Fishing Film Tour 2019 Top 5 Reasons to Go

Here are the top five reasons to head on over to get your tickets for the Fly Fishing Film Tour — 2019 version!

“I honestly don’t know why I fish.

Or, rather, I fish in order to save my life;

I just don’t know why it saves my life.”

— John Gierach

5.  The Crowd:  Over the past couple of years, the Fly Fishing Film Tour has brought together 300 – 400 anglers from around the Pikes Peak region.  It’s a great evening of film, food, beer, and raffles for a good cause!  Think of it as going to the movies with a bunch, a whole bunch, of your coolest friends.

4.  The Raffle:  From the speed raffle for gear to the raffled guided trips to the float trips to destination trips, this is fast-paced action to get some cool swag and more! We’ll be returning to the original format of the speed raffle this year where the pace progressively quickens as we move through the numbers.

3.  The Films: OK, you’re right, the films are the focus of the evening.  We get a great mix of films that showcase some bucket-list destinations, capture the friendships and camaraderie of fly fishing, reflect on the solitude and spiritual nature of the sport, and demonstrate some pretty great filmmaking.  This year’s line-up is equally impressive.  See all of the trailers here.

larry2.  The Stories:  We have some great stories of how Project Healing Waters has impacted the lives of veterans in our own Pikes Peak region. When Brady Busby spoke two years ago, he stated it pretty clearly:  “Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing changed my life.  Fly fishing changes your heart”

Larry Fivecoats, a veteran of the Vietnam War and currently the co-lead for Denver’s Project Healing Waters, spoke at the film tour in 2015. He movingly told the audience what Project Healing Waters has meant to him:

“It does make us better people.  Better husbands.  Better fathers.  Better brothers.  It’s all part of coming home, all the way.  For some of us, it just takes a little longer.”

During the evening, we are lucky to hear the stories of some of the veterans supported by Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing.

And, the #1 reason to attend the Fly Fishing Film Tour

The Cause:  The primary purpose of the evening is to support Project Healing Waters. This night alone, we raise between $15,000 – $18,000 for the local chapter of Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing.  The Colorado Springs chapter is reported to be the most active of the 160 chapters in the U.S.  So what opportunities will the money support?  The funds raised will go toward more than 40 trips planned for veterans this season, toward rod-building, and to support the fly tying classes.
