"Hopper" Juan Ramirez is a full-time fly-fishing guide on Colorado’s South Platte and Arkansas Rivers. Over the past 12 years, he has guided these waters extensively, learning nearly every bend, seam, and pocket of both rivers. An accomplished fly tier, Juan is well known for his small, technical patterns designed to fool the selective trout that inhabit Colorado’s tailwaters. Some of his most notable creations include the Money Midge, Flux Capacitor, iStone, Kryptonite Caddis, Pale Ale, Sniper Baetis, Jedi Master, and Slim Shady.

When he’s not guiding—or during the winter months—Juan can be found tying flies at local fly-fishing shows and demonstrations. He is a pro team member for Loon Outdoors, Regal Fly Tying Vises, Scott Fly Rod Company, and Daiichi Hooks, and he is a signature fly designer for Montana Fly Company.

"Hopper" Juan did an absolute amazing job at getting us on some quality fish in Pueblo! He was very thorough with his block of instruction before we headed into the tail water. He gave a clear concise message which explained the why portion of each block, which really helped with putting fish in the net. I booked the trip for my father-in-law's birthday who turned 70. My concern was he wasn't going to be able to handle the strong current but our guide did a great job of keeping him dry and helping him navigate every portion of the river. He physically helped him in some portions which just shows you his dedication to provide top-notch quality service. I was expecting to maybe get a handful of eats for the entire half day trip. Juan got us somewhere close to 20 and none of the fish we had on were small with the majority of them being 18" plus. We had an absolute blast and learned a ton. He had no issues sharing tips and tricks with us either. We have zero complaints and would 100% recommend anyone book a trip with him. All in all 10/10 would recommend. He even recommended a local taco shop to eat at afterwards which was phenomenal. I wish this thing would let me give him 6 stars!"
