The Fly Fishing Guide School @ Angler’s Covey
“It’s the best job on the planet” is a phrase that is frequently uttered by fly fishing guides all over the world. Becoming a guide is a process, and a professional guide school is a necessary first step.
Angler’s Covey prides itself on providing a unique fly fishing adventure for all of our customers. At the very heart of that experience is the relationship they have with their professional guide. The Fly Fishing Guide School is the first step to sharing your passion for the sport with others.
While individual angling skills are important, fly fishing skills are not all that makes a good fly fishing guide. In the School, students will learn all of the ins and outs to become not only a successful fly fishing guide, but a top-quality professional. This School is one of a kind and designed to cover everything you will need to know on your journey to become a walk/wade fly fishing guide.
The Angler’s Covey Guide School instructors are Orvis-endorsed guides with literally over 1000 years of collective experience fishing and guiding throughout the west. Combine their expertise with the detailed curriculum at the heart of the School, and you have a top-tier introduction into the life of a fly fishing guide.
The School will run Monday through Friday from 5pm to 9pm at the fly shop. Saturday and Sunday will be spent on the water putting your skills to work from approximately 8am to 4pm. The School will conclude with assessments and completion certificates on Sunday.
Completion of the guide school DOES NOT guarantee employment as a guide with Angler’s Covey. However, exceptional students will be given an opportunity to start their guiding career with Angler’s Covey.
We recommend booking your spot early as the School enrollment is limited to eight students! The school is $1099.00 per person, or $999.00 per person with early bird registration (registered by March 1st, 2025).
This guide school does not teach fly fishing skills. Students are expected to come to the school with the knowledge and skill of fly fishing. Knots, rigging, knowledge of area fisheries, etc.
Students need to possess a valid Colorado fishing license, fly rod, waders, and basic equipment.
There is a 50% non-refundable deposit required to hold your spot. Total payment will be due by 4/1/2025.
Lodging is not included, but we have area partners that we can recommend to students.
All fly fishing guides in the state of Colorado must complete First Aid / CPR training. We will offer a first aid class soon after the guide school. This is a mandatory certification to be a guide in the US. Upon completion of your First Aid and CPR training, you will receive a current First Aid & CPR card which is valid for two years in the state of Colorado. Cost of CPR course is in addition to your certification.
