TJ Spader who is a native of Pennsylvania, moved to Colorado Springs at age 17. While he did grow up flying fishing small creeks as a young boy in Pennsylvania with his grandfather. Fly fishing didn’t really become a passion until moving to Colorado where the adventures are endless! These days you can find him either fly fishing or skateboarding with his wife Kylie and two boys Silas and Dax.

"My wife, brother and I had hired a fly fishing guide through Anglers Covey. We have used Anglers Covey before with fly fishing excursions and took a fly casting class all of which we enjoyed and learned from. We hired a guide this time to help us re-hone our skills and help us with different techniques and strategies with things like casting, setting, type of flies, water temperatures, water speed, etc. TJ Spader was our guide and did a phenomenal job. Before we had our scheduled trip, TJ reached out and asked what we wanted to accomplish with this excursion. We explained our goals and TJ prepared for our day. While we were on the river, he took the opportunity to teach us where to cast, where the fish may be, look for the shadows in the water. If we got a hit, how to properly set. As a beginner, you will lose more fish than you will catch. Every fish we lost was TJ's opportunity to show us what to do next time. When we finally landed a fish, he celebrated with us. TJ was constantly moving back and forth between the 3 of us to see what we can practice or learn. At one point, we set the poles down and he gave us a little teaching on bugs and fly and how to see what various bugs are in the area we were fishing so we can match the what we have on the pole. There is so much to learn but it was exciting. We weren't out to just catch fish or say we fished a certain area, we came to learn and better our skills so we can build more confidence when we go out on our own and finally adopt fly fishing as a hobby. I am sure we will hire TJ again when we get stuck again and need more teaching. I have always enjoyed dealing with Anglers Covey and appreciate the great guides they have especially TJ"
