An Evening in Elevenmile Canyon

An Evening in Elevenmile Canyon

by Dave Herber

Fall is my favorite time of the year to be on the water with a fly rod. Some of the aspens in 11 Mile Canyon are turning yellow.

I have been thirsting for an evening in 11 Mile Canyon. To satisfy this thirst, I fished The Canyon yesterday from 3-7:30 pm.

I started with a size 18 Puterbaugh Black Foam Caddis….and never changed flies. I covered a lot of water and made hundreds casts with my favorite rod…the 9’ 4 wt. Orvis Helios.

I hooked a dozen trout and landed half of them.

Four of them were memorable, including a 17” Rainbow within the first five minutes. At 5 pm I landed this beautiful 15” Cutbow.
