A Brief Story of the Middle Fork of the Salmon River

The Cheyenne Mountain Chapter of Trout Unlimited welcomes Willi Cannell, Owner & Outfitter from Solitude River Trips in Ketchum, Idaho as guest presenter for the February Membership Meeting.  Willi will be presenting “A Brief Story of the Middle Fork of the Salmon River” on Tuesday, February 24th, at the Retired Enlisted Association building (834 Emory Circle, Colorado Springs, CO.  Click here for the map).

salmon riverWilli was born in Camden, Maine, where he grew up primarily in his father’s wooden boat shop. When he was 10, his family relocated to Idaho, where Willi learned how to fly fish and fell in love with central Idaho’s seemingly endless wilderness, public lands, mountains, rivers, and animals. He began guiding during the summers while studying English at St Lawrence University. He eventually returned to guide on the Middle Fork and Main Salmon Rivers, where he now owns and operates Solitude River Trips on the Middle Fork of the Salmon River. In the winter he is a part time ski racing coach in Sun Valley, and when not skiing or fly fishing, his primary hobby is flying his paraglider around the mountains of Idaho.

Free flowing through the 2.3 million acre Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness, The Middle Fork of the Salmon River is the West’s most rugged wilderness cutthroat trout fishery. Outfitter Willi Cannell conceptualizes wilderness and tells the history of Central Idaho’s geology, natural resources, and human use.
