Class Close-up Fishing Cheesman Canyon

Have you ever wanted to learn to fish Cheesman Canyon from a local expert? Cheesman is one of the area’s most technical fisheries — with the rich rewards that come from taking on the challenge!

Jon Easdon, Director of Services, will be teaching anglers the techniques and strategies for fishing Cheesman Canyon on Sunday, June 25th.

Jon will go over specific methods and unique strategies to meet the challenges faced in this fishery: straight-line nymphing, hopper-dropper techniques, and dry fly fishing. He will also go over sight-fishing in the canyon.

Jon will also cover the local entomology and fly selection, seasonal strategies, and entry/exit locations into the Canyon.

This class will require participants to have previous fly fishing experience. This one is not a beginner’s class.  Anglers will also be hiking into the canyon, about 1.5 miles one way, and should be in good physical condition.

This class will meet at Angler’s Covey at 5:30 a.m. on June 26th. Following a short 30-minute classroom portion and an equipment and gear check, anglers will head to the Canyon, about an hour drive from the Shop.

This class will require a minimum of 3 students with a max of 5.  If it goes larger, Jon will bring a second expert.

Two years ago, when flows in the Canyon were an incredible 1100 cfs, we had an amazing class.  Read more about those “lessons learned in Cheesman Canyon” here.
