Guide's Gift List for 2017

by Angler’s Covey Guides and Staff

Sometimes gift shopping for your favorite angler is a tough challenge — so much gear and accessories, so little time!  Heck, it’s a challenge even shopping for yourself.  To make this year’s gift giving easier, our Guides and Staff have compiled their top gift ideas for 2017.  And don’t forget, Saturday, December 2 is TU Day @ The Covey.

Dave Herber is in love with the Fishpond Nomad nets for one simple reason: there is nothing better! Check out the description from Fishpond’s website: “Nomad Nets are constructed of a carbon fiber/fiberglass composite material, resulting in a very lightweight and durable net. Built for the challenging conditions that can prevail where great fishing exists; Nomad nets are waterproof, UV protected, and float like a cork. All Nomad nets come standard with a clear rubber net bag. For the hardcore lumbar pack wearer, the mid-length net allows a secure, comfortable fit between the pack and the angler’s back, and a greater reach distance when landing fish.”

Kaitlin Boyer and Jon Easdon love the Sightline Provisions bracelets. They are stylish and Jon believes they have good fish karma, Heck, we all need more of that!  A nice little accessory that’s outside the box of traditional gifts.

Kristina Dougherty likes the new Umpqua LT and HD fly boxes. Incorporated with a ton of storage capacity in a slimmed down profile, there are 22 different models to choose from. We have them all!

One of Kenny Romero‘s favorite accessories are scissor clamps. These are a scissor and forced combination and makes the need for have multiple tool unnecessary. The Scissor also gives a straight or slanted edge.  And who can have too many forceps?

Jon Easdon, Kristina Dougherty and Scott Voyles all think that a guided fly fishing trip is the perfect gift. Nothing will plug you into fly fishing like a trip with one of our professional guides. Guided trips can be scheduled for any time of the year and for any number of people. We do have custom gift certificates for our trips. Inquire in store for details.

fJon Easdon was rather impressed with the new Sage Foundation series of rods. These rods far out perform their price and will be sure to grace many anglers’ hands this year.  “I like the 4 and 5 wt. rods. A ton of versatility and they don’t feel cheap.”

Cody Ensanian’s gift list includes one of his favorite reels right now, the new Sage Spectrum LT. They are super light in the hand and have a beautiful design that’s as functional as it is aesthetically pleasing. “And super important to me, this reel has a very large (but not in the way) drag knob that is both easy to find and easy to grip thanks to the knurling.”

Bonus: The Spectrum LT comes in some great color schemes.

One of the most important tools for the angler are good sunglasses. Smith sunglasses make our list every year for 2 simple reasons: they work, and they are bomb-proof with a lifetime warranty.  Earl Hecker says, “I love the Smith sunglasses with the ignitor, and the low light lenses make spotting fish effortless in those low light situations.”

Rachel Lienweber LOVES the Simms Guide Women’s Thermal sock. She says, “I used these socks all summer and they weren’t too hot but kept my feet warm while guiding in the freezing Deckers water! I used them this winter for fishing in below freezing temps and my feet are warm and cozy! I love that they are long enough to go up to my knee, so they are above the gravel guard crease on my waders which usually hurts my leg when I have shorter socks”

The Remington i.D fly reel is one of the most exciting product introductions we’ve ever made. It features a flat back surface to accept custom decals representing anything from your home state to your favorite fish species, and the decals are simple to remove, stack, or swap to update your reel’s look over time. There is no better product to define your identity as an angler. The i.D features sturdy cast aluminum construction, a smooth rulon disc drag, and a large arbor for speedy line retrieve. A wide variety of decals are available for customization and personal expression.

Paul Martinez has been fishing the new Orvis H3 rod and has nothing but amazing things to say about it. Bluntly stated, Paul says “It fishes great!! I would totally recommend this rod for the intermediate to advanced fly fisher.”

Actually, Our entire staff and most of our guides chose the H3 as their gift of choice. You need to cast this thing to believe it! Available in H3D, and H3F versions.
