June 2 Get Outdoors Day – Colorado Springs

If Memorial Day is seen as the national launch to summer, then our local, hands-on start to summer is “Get Outdoors Day — Colorado Springs” this Saturday, June 2, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm in Memorial Park and at Prospect Lake.  This FREE event has activities and experiences for kids and adults.  Biking, kayaking, paddling SUP boards, fly fishing, spin fishing, and more … are all on the agenda.  But that’s only a little slice of what’s in store!

Get Outdoors Day is an interactive event with hands-on experiences that are fun and educational.  Learn about gardening at high altitudes, trail maintenance, bird watching, and conservation in the Pikes Peak Region.  Cadets from the Air Force Academy will be there with falcons for a close-up, ok a “bird’s eye” view, of falconry.  Kids will have a chance to “touch a truck” with a variety of vehicles used by the Colorado Parks and Wildlife.

Guides from Angler’s Covey will be there to teach some basics of fly fishing , introduce folks to the life of bugs and the fish that eat ’em, and teach some casting techniques on Prospect Lake. Last year, more than a few kids (and bigger kids!) caught their first trout on a fly rod as they learned!   The first 1000 kids to the event will receive a fishing pole and water bottle!

enjoy Get Outdoors Day, 2017!

This is the 3rd annual event and is supported by a whole host of local outdoor organizations and businesses. Last year, we saw around 5,000 people get their summer adventures started at Memorial Park.  With so much to do in the Pikes Peak Region, why not Get Outdoors this Saturday and get your summer off to a great start?
