Guide Cook-Off Winners!
We recently held a fun event for our guides and staff – a healthy competition of our guides’ culinary skills – a Guide Cook-off!
Our competitors — Greg Blessing, Jon Easdon, and Juan Ramirez — cooked a meal like they would prepare and provide on any guide trip — right off their tailgates! Greg cooked up his buffalo burgers, baked beans and potato salad. He topped that off with homemade cheesecake. Jon made his bacon-wrapped grilled chicken. Next up was Juan’s protein-rich “Hopper Juan Casserole.” Just kidding! We had his New Mexican Green Chile (from a secret family recipe) served up with homemade corn chips.
Our judges went to each contestant’s dining table to score their meals on three pre-established criteria: taste, presentation, and what we will call replicability. What? The criteria were: did the meal taste good? was it served with attention to details (or just spooned up on a paper plate?), and could it be made again, in one of those little pull-out areas in the Canyon or along the Arkansas?
One thing is for sure: on your next guided fly fishing trip, even if the fish aren’t cooperative, at least you’ll be well-fed! No hot dogs and beans on our trips.
And the winners are…
