Class Close-up: Kayak Fly Fishing
Want to expand your fly fishing adventure? Want to decrease the shoulder-to-shoulder experience common on too many summer days? This Sunday, March 14, Jon Easdon will be teaching the Kayak Fly Fishing Colorado’s Trophy Lakes class at the Covey. Beyond an intro to stillwater fishing, an often overlooked and under-utilized resource, this course will offer the fly fisher an introduction to the adventure of fishing from a kayak.
We are not getting more rivers or increasing the number of small streams to fish. So, as Easdon says, “we need to think outside of the box” to increase places to fish and ways to take trophy-sized fish. Our lakes and reservoirs are that opportunity.
Kayaks offer advantages that other stillwater options don’t have: maneuverability, low profile, storage space, and sheer enjoyment. You can read Jon Easdon’s blog about an early Kayak Experience for a first hand account.
In addition, we have several great destinations just a short drive from Colorado Springs. Within minutes from the Shop, we have the North and South Catamount Reservoirs and Rampart Reservoir. Venture a little further, and you can have your kayak on Elevenmile, Spinney, or Skaguay reservoirs in under two hours.
Register for the class. The course will cover access, rigging, tactics and tips, and effective fly patterns. Check out all of our upcoming events for Boot the Hoot including our Hobie Spotlight on March 13 and 14. And take that next step to increase your fly fishing adventure in 2021.
Slowly but steadily, anglers have come to appreciate the beauty of stillwater fly fishing. We often think of adding another rod to our quiver of options — why not add a whole new approach to fly fishing? Angler’s Covey now offers Guided Fly Fishing Kayak Trip in our menu of choices for the angler who wants to grow their adventure and take it to new waters.
